In the Spring of 2015 the Wausau and Marathon County Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department opened up a new, publicly-owned, outdoor field sports facility, hereafter known as the Peoples Sports Complex. This state-of-the-art Sports Complex has 15 irrigated fields with underdrainage including a lit championship field, parking for 430 vehicles plus 176 overflow, concession building, playground and restrooms.  Fields vary in size to fit recommended dimensions for each age group.

In 2017, the Sports Complex hosted two soccer tournaments, Central Wisconsin Adult Soccer, Lacrosse Tournament, Wausau Hmong Festival, Wausau Area Youth Soccer Club, Wausau City Futbol Club, Marathon County United Soccer Club, and numerous schools for their games.  In all there were over 150,000 visits to the Sports Complex that has earned the reputation as having the best natural grass sports fields in the state.
