Corporation Counsel serves as the parliamentarian for the Marathon County Board of Supervisors and provides legal advice, assistance, formal opinions and court representation to the County Board, County departments, elected officials and County commissions, boards and committees. The Office of Corporation Counsel also represents Marathon County in civil matters, including involuntary mental health commitments, adult guardianship and protective placement cases, child welfare matters, child support enforcement, ordinance enforcement, and claims against the County or its departments.

The Office of Corporation Counsel does not represent or provide advice to unincorporated townships within the County or to members of the public. The name "Corporation Counsel" means that attorneys working in the office represent the interests of the County, which does business like other corporations.
