County Road Work - Pavement Seals

Post Date:07/24/2023 11:13 AM

Several County Roads will have pavement seals placed on them.  The seals are designed to preserve the existing asphalt and protect it from the effects of water and sun.

Sealing will begin on Tuesday, July 25th and is planned to be completed in approximately 10 working days.  The work is highly weather dependent.

As part of the work, crews will temporarily close off one lane to apply treatments and will guide drivers using flaggers and/or pilot vehicles.  There may be times where all traffic will need to be stopped for short periods of time.

Crews will be installing two different types of seals; fog seals and chip seals.  Fog seals are a layer of liquid asphalt and other agents sprayed on top of the pavement.  The material is sprayed one lane at a time.  The lane is re-opened after the material sets up, which is usually about 45-60 minutes.  Chip seals are similar to fog seals, except the amount of liquid asphalt sprayed on the road is approximately three to four times greater than the fog seal and a layer of stone is applied on top of this seal.  For both applications, the pavement will be allowed to cure for approximately two weeks before pavement markings are replaced.

Roads to be treated with fog seals are below (Roads are listed in order of construction, crews will start on CTH VV);

  • County Road VV
  • County Road DD (approximately 1 mile west of CTH D)
