This plan has been prepared to guide the City of Wausau in developing public outdoor park and recreation facilities.

The Wausau and Marathon County Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department has updated its 15-year Forest Plan which will guide the management of our 30,674-acre Marathon County Forest from 2021 – 2035.

Each year the Forestry Division compiles an annual report listing the accomplishments of the past year and a work plan for the next year.  The DNR also compiles an annual Wildlife Work Plan.  All three reports can be found below in PDF format:

The Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan is used to guide the County in making decisions related to improvements at existing parks, land acquisition for park expansion and creation, and trail extensions/improvements, etc. for the next 5‐year period. The Wausau and Marathon County Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department has updated the 2020 - 2024 plan.  The Marathon County Park Commission and Marathon County Board of Supervisors has approved the plan and it is available for public reference as follows:

The Westside Master Plan was adopted by resolution of the Marathon County Board on February 21, 2023, following recommendations for adoption by the Park Commission and Environmental Resources Committee on January 31, 2023, and the Human Resources, Finance and Property Committee on February 8, 2023.
